doll-making class

Ali Lichtenstein, a professor of women’s studies, sociology, and English at Keene State College and a quilt artist, was one of Bapagrama’s guests this summer. Ali taught us all how to make simple felt dolls then organized doll-making sessions for the 8th and 9th standard. The 10th standard made felt sewing needle kits. Sister Ruth, Jayashri, Raga, Nagalakshmi, Meenakshi, Chandrakala, Wanda, Maeve, Missy, Lauren, Emily, Elisa, Jeremiah, Atasi, Olya, Lindsey, Caitlin, Ashley, Eli, and I (in various combinations) helped with the classes.

As you can see from the photos, the children were very absorbed in their projects and very proud of their work.

Chandu, the tailor in downtown Bengaluru who makes our clothes, donates all his scrapes to us for our sewing projects. The fabrics are gorgeous!
